International Cartoon Festival at Lefkada, Greece

Dear friends of international caricature humor,
It is our pleasure to announce the organization of a cartoon exhibition at the island of Lekfkada from August 1 until August 15.
Lerfkada is one of the most beautiful Greek islands. Its most striking characteristic, besides its natural beauty, is the modern bridge that connects it to the mainland. The island is also at a close distance from the airport of Preveza.

Thousands of tourists from Greece and all over the world are visiting the island every year, attracted by its famous beaches with the turquoise waters.
Lefkada is a famous holiday location while many Europeans have chosen Lefkada as their permanent residence, due to its good climate and exceptional beauty and the hospitable spirit of its residents.
The history and tradition of Lefkada are very rich and date since the mythical era since, according to the legend, one of the companions of the famous Ulysses was Lefkos, after whom Lefkada may have taken its name.

Another myth says that Lefkada took its name from the white cliffs (Lefkos means White in Greek) that are found at the southernmost part of the island from which the famous ancient lyric poet Sapfo jumped to her death, distraught from the unrequited love she had for the boatman Phaon.
Lefkada is also the birthplace of two modern Greek poets and has a 60-year tradition in literature and art festivals that are being organized every year during July and August.
This year, this special island will host its first international cartoon, a long-time dream realized by the mayor, Mr. Vasilis Fetsis and the Greek cartoonists who responded to his call.
During the 20th century, the island became famous after Aristotle Onassis married Jackie Kennedy at his private island of Skorpios, off the coast of Lefkada.

This summer, thousands of visitors and tourists who think of Lefkada as their favorite holiday destination, will have another reason to visit it: the International Cartoon exhibition, with the participation of many worldwide famous cartoonists, whose pieces of work will cry to the world: “Save the Environment!”, “Go on holidays!”, “Live in peace”

Message from the Mayor of Lefkada

The environment, the most valuable and simple gift given to mankind, shall provide the inspiration to all cartoonists. The environment is our home and, more specifically, it houses the best moments in our lives, when we enjoy its peaceful beauty during our holidays.
The topic of the exhibition leaves plenty of space for passing through strong messages, since cartoons speak a universal language. We are, therefore, expecting the cartoons from all of you, whom we regard as the pioneers of ideas and sharp humor, in order to send from our beautiful island a universal cry: “Save the Environment!”, “Go on holidays!”, “Live in peace”.
